Enjoy the weekend my friend.

I would like for you to look at the numbers from the $3/seat Saturday and comment on where you think the industry is heading? Did this marketing tactic show more foot traffic at the theatres or was it just a passing fad. $3/seat, they (Movie Theatre industry) must be losing tremendously. Every seat, every theatre? Come on man!

They said the next big movie push will be late October maybe early November. It's going to be chilly inside the theatres between now and then. What is missing? People would run to the movies to chase away their troubles.

So, if streaming will be the way to go.......then who's on top in your book (for streaming movies)? Streaming the best movies.

In my region of the country, they are charging $2.99 to stream Top Gun (1986). Come on man! Talk about wringing the towel one more time? I'll just wait until it is on regular FX and just fast forward through the commercials.

You enjoy your weekend, too.

Oh, yes, they're in trouble. And you're right, things are not going to get really interesting until October.

Why the slowdown in moviegoing? Yes, streaming at home, sometimes with 54" screens, is drawing away a lot of business. And the in-theater experience has become expensive and annoying, with too many ads and trailers, costly snacks and sodas, rude patrons talking (to each other) and texting (to others outside the theater).

Yes, all that's true. But I go with what I've seen a few commentators, mostly older movie critics, say: there aren't enough good, interesting movies to make you want to leave the house. Top Gun: Maverick is no masterpiece, but it's well-made, and the CRAFT of moviemaking was what actually pulled you through the movie, and you absolutely can't fully appreciate that at home, not even on a 54" screen. It didn't just dazzle you. WHILE it was dazzling you, you had to ask yourself HOW is this movie dazzling me? It was technique in service to a story, not technique overpowering a story. Making loud noises and blowing things up aren't truly matters of craft. They at best demonstrate skill, and a thug who mugs you in an alley can be skillful.

The best streamers? I don't have a favorite. I move among Hulu, HBO Max, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. I give each of them a chance. And each of them can deliver worthwhile watching.
