Your thoughts make me ponder on the Politics like Justo said. Will Smith over Denzel man that is really political. Interesting race, both deserve it, but who the Academy likes the most is the winner.

You've got it exactly right. Both performances are good. I liked Denzel's better, and with Shakespeare he had a lot of complex stuff to get into. But I thought Will was very good in King Richard, which is also an inspiring movie, and I'll be pleased when he wins. But, yeah, industry politics do come into play. They say that Hollywood doesn't want to give Denzel a third Oscar when Will has never won. So, over the years out there it seems they like to hand around the accolades. It's a club in some ways.

Why do you think CODA *will* win Best Picture? I definitely vibe with who *should* win, but I’m curious about the politics at hand with these awards.

Thanks for asking. I follow the Oscar race fairly closely, and lately among all the prognosticators CODA took this tremendous leap forward. Mainly because Troy Kotsur from CODA very unexpectedly won best supporting actor at the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards. Actors form the largest voting bloc in the Academy, and their love for this performance pushed the whole movie. Also, the presumed favorite, The Power of the Dog, was beginning to lose steam. It's a dark movie, and CODA is uplifting. With the world going through a lot of stuff, suddenly everyone was saying CODA, this very upbeat movie, was a lock. And in Hollywood during awards season sometimes saying it's so, makes it so. That seems to be what happened here. My own Best Picture choice, as you read, is Drive My Car.

Thanks, but almost everyone else did, too. No special insight on my part.
